We would like to add our prayers to all those in Davao City, from right across the Philippines and beyond, for the many dead and injured victims of an explosion that ripped through the city’s Roxas Night Market on Friday night.
To those being cared for in the city’s hospitals, we wish you a speedy and complete recovery. To the families, friends and loved ones of all those caught up in this tragedy, our thoughts are with you. And for those who are no longer with us: Let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
Saint Peter, the Gate Keeper of Heaven is Davao City’s Patron Saint. On Sunday, Masses will be said for all the victims, at San Pedro’s Cathedral, the church that is dedicated to him.
Our thoughts at this difficult time are also with President Duterte. Times such as this are lonely and painful for those who have been chosen to shoulder the responsibilities of protecting their people. His pain will be deep and it will be personal.
This, then, is not a time for speculation; it is a time for prayer.
